Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal—fit in at school, and go out on a real date with the gorgeous Zayne, whom she's crushed on since forever. Trouble is, Zayne treats Layla like a sister—and Layla is anything but normal. She's half demon, half gargoyle, with abilities no one else possesses. And even though Zayne is a Warden, part of the race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe, Layla's kiss will kill anything with a soul—including him.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know her secrets. Though Layla knows she should stay away, it's tough when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue. Trusting Roth could ruin her chances with Zayne—and brand her a traitor to the Warden family that raised her. But as Layla discovers she's the sole reason for a violent demon uprising, kissing the enemy suddenly pales in comparison to the looming end of the world.

Demons?? Gargoyle?? 2 boys 1 girl?? Oh hell yea!!

I started reading this book mainly because i had just finished the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout and really enjoyed the series, JAL has also announced at that time that she would be publishing a book from the same universe as the dark elements series, and i was like 'yea maybe i should read it'.

Into the first few chapters i immediately shipped Roth and Layla, i mean their relationship is goals. I feel like their relationship progressed way faster than what i would like and i guess was just taken aback. I ship them so hard because they really have a connection, they're both always concerned about the other, curious to find out more about the other and just basically complete each other in a way.

In my opinion, Zayne and Layla's relationship is my a brother-sister kind of relationship, putting aside the pretty big age gap, throughout the story Zayne protects Layla in a family kind of manner. For example, telling Abbot about the seeker issue, suggesting that she stops tagging for her own safety, etc. All of this is what a stereotypical brother would do for the sister he cares so much about.

Thus, i ship Roth and Layla in the boyfriend-girlfriend way and i hope Zayne continues to devote himself to keeping Layla safe and treasuring her like a little sister.

My favourite would be... Bambi!! She's awesome and i now i want a pet snake XD

JkJk my favourite character is Roth (Bambi is just as great) because he is so sweet (holding hands with Layla) and just like Daemon, he's confident in his abilities and total boyfriend material ;))

"People with the purest souls are capable of the greatest evils. No one is perfect, no matter what they are or what side they fight for."

But it wasn't really the romance that really captured my attention, it was the 'good versus evil' part of the book.

In the book, Wardens keep humanity safe by getting rid of the demons in the human world, Wardens believed that demons are pure evil and do nothing but cause trouble and are a threat to society. But it is clearly shown in story that not all demons are evil and not all Wardens are good either.

This made a big impact on me as i really like this kind of viewpoint (good vs evil), to me it just truly reflects our human society right now. In our current society, there are many cases of discrimination due to someone's heritage, race, religion and even gender. Everyone's fighting for something, every 'evil' person is fighting for something or someone they love, i hope that this 'not all good people are good and not all bad people are bad' message is spread around the world so that more people would be able to stop themselves and understand the situation in hand before taking action.

Overall, this book was really good, i loved the message it conveyed, i loved the romance, the fight scenes were pretty good too. On to the sequel!
